What is a Flower CSA?

CSA is an acronym for

Community

Supported

Agriculture.

The idea is that community members support their local farmers by purchasing a seasonal share. In this case, you would buy a Flower CSA Share of fresh, locally grown flowers and herbs. As a member, you'll have the chance to visit our quaint and humble farm and connect with other CSA members who share your interests. We also provide education on flower arranging and tips for keeping your cut flowers fresh. By joining our CSA, you will build a strong relationship with your farmer and have peace of mind knowing exactly where and how your flowers and herbs are grown.

In addition, this type of partnership involves sharing with local farmers the benefits and challenges of farming. As a member, you get to experience the rewards of small-scale farming without dealing with the tedious task of weeding! However, it's important to note that you also share the risks associated with this type of farming.

When it comes to buying a subscription versus a CSA, the key difference is that farming does not come with a guarantee for a single crop. This is because farmers face ongoing challenges such as pests, disease, and unpredictable weather. However, with a CSA, you can expect to receive whatever crops are thriving each week. Despite the obstacles that agriculture presents, the feeling of satisfaction that comes with success makes it all worthwhile.

By joining our flower farm, you not only gain access to our beautiful blooms but also support our educational opportunities for local youth interested in learning about market gardening and homesteading. As a teaching farm, we offer a free program to homeschooled middle and high school students, which holds great potential for our community's future. I am proud to coordinate this program and excited to see the positive impact it will have.

CSAs are generally open for purchase in the winter months through early spring before the growing season begins. For small farms like ours, a pre-purchase is crucial. It allows us to acquire funds to buy new seed and bulb varieties for the upcoming season, maintain our farm equipment, and invest in necessary infrastructure. In return, by investing in our CSA Flower program, beautiful local flowers will be harvested fresh from our flower fields and available directly to you or your loved one during the growing season!

We offer 4, 6, and 12-week shares. For more details, visit our website www.sweetsongflowerfarm.com/flower-csa. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email andrea@sweetsongflowerfarm.com.
